There is a lot around Pune for schools


Pune is one of the major cities in India. It has emerged as a hot IT destination with several companies running there. The weather is also pleasant there. The best thing is it located ideally from a few picnic spots. These picnics could be reached in a short time. Therefore, schools take their children on an excursion or a picnic to these destinations. These visits not only lighten the pressure of studies but also serve as a great source of knowledge. Children learn a lot as they see and touch.

Let’s visit a few of these picnic places and learn from them. We will bring our children along as well.

Karla Caves: These caves are located in Karli near Lonavala. They are about 60 kilometers from Pune. Karli is the place in Maharashtra that divides northern and southern India. These caves are built on rocky hillsides. Large windows were cut in the rocks so that there is a light inside. These caves are a wonderful piece of architecture and any visitor would just love it. It is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

Khadakwasla Dam: This dam is situated nearly 20 kilometers from Pune and is one of the main sources of water supply to the city. It was built in 1879 however, was later blown due to heavy floods in the year 1961 and then was rebuilt. The dam offers wonderful scenic beauty and invites people and tourists. Weekends are very populated. You could visit the Peacock Bay, and Neelkantheshwar.

Matheran: Matheran is a hill station in Raigad district of Maharashtra. This beautiful place is located 120 kilometers from Pune. You could reach Matheran from Pune by rail or road. Children really enjoy traveling in the toy train running between Matheran and Neral. There are several charming places, including 2 lakes, 2 parks, a few holy places of worship. Celia Point is a waterfall mouth and looks amazing to see. Besides this you could also witness sunrise from the Panorama Point and sunset from the Porcupine Point.

Panchgani: Another popular hill station and a good place for schools picnics near Pune. Panchgani is located in Satara district in Maharashtra. It is around 100 kilometers from Pune. It is famous for boarding schools. You can imagine how wonderful this place is. Schools could take their children to Sydney Point, which offers the view of Dhom Dam. Table Land is one of longest plateau in Asia, interesting for geography students. Devil’s Kitchen is another place worth visiting. It is said that the Pandavas of Mahabharat stayed here for some time. Pandavgad caves were also built by them then.

Mahabaleshwar: Mahabaleshwar is also a popular hill station in the Satara district. It is 120 km away from Pune. You could reach Mahabaleshwar from Pune by rail and road both. It is a holiday as well as a honeymoon spot. Still, there are places for children as well. Arthur’s Seat named after Sir Arthur Mallet is located at the height of 1340 meters. The Needle Hole Point is worth viewing as it gives the sight of a natural rock formation with a hole in between. Wilson Point is the place where you could watch sunrise and sunset as well. It was named after Sir Leslie Wilson. There are many more places to organize school picnics near Pune.
